Funds and Assets Protected from Garnishment — What the Law Protects

Israeli law protects certain amounts and assets from garnishment, in order to ensure a dignified living. Knowing these protections can save you money — and win you a refund if you were over-collected.

In brief: Not everything can be garnished. There is a protected balance in the account, protected wages, protected benefits and essential assets. Garnishing them may be reversible and refundable.

The Main Protected Funds

Why does this matter to you?

If protected funds or assets were garnished from you, the garnishment may be unlawful and can be reversed — and sometimes you may even receive a refund for what was collected unlawfully.

How do you check?

  1. Identify which of the garnished funds fall within the protected categories.
  2. Gather documentation of the source of the funds.
  3. Submit the appropriate application to cancel the garnishment and recover the amounts.
